Terry Edward Avery Sr., age 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Belle View Estates Rehabilitation and Care Center in Monticello, Arkansas. He was born October 5, 1955, to the late Richard Allen Avery and Mary Frances Wherry Avery. He began his education in the Drew School District, was a 1973 graduate of Monticello Senior High School then went on to attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He attended Morning Star MBC, where he became a member until his health failed. In his younger years, he worked at Burlington Industries before becoming the best truck driver to come out of Southeast Arkansas. He drove for over 20 years including cross country and local companies. He loved to play basketball at Jordan Park. He would pull up near half court with a mean left-hand jumper, which he would make most of the time. In the ’80s, he coached a young women’s softball team called the Sweet Sensations. He also loved to go bowling. He was very competitive.
He is survived by five daughters, Kerri (Lonnie) Humphrey of Spring Lake, NC, Tonya Hughes of O’fallon, Illinois, Kristy Davis of Fordyce, AR, Kerri Avery, and Kimberly Catchings both of Monticello, AR; one son, Terry Avery, Jr. of Monticello, AR; two brothers, Jerry Avery and Anthony (Jean) Avery, Sr. both of El Dorado, AR; one sister, Maryland Avery of Bryant, AR; one uncle, William Andrew Powell of Monticello, AR; nine grandchildren, Tory, Tyquan, Taj, Jabriona, Jayla, Erion, Kevionna, Rob’Vion, and Laila; three great-grandchildren, Ja’ Kye, Mi’kyhlun and Ma’Kheil; two nephews, Anthony Jr. and Justin; one Niece, Brianne; good friend, Sammy Simpson, Sr., and a special sister/friend Diane Avery; as well as a host of cousins and friends.
Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2022, in the Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be at Morning Star Baptist Church, Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Monticello, AR.
