Nellie Grimes, age 96, peacefully departed her earthly body at her son’s home in Arizona on April 16, 2023, where she enjoyed her last two years. Born December 11, 1926, in the Possum Valley Community of Drew County, Arkansas, she never lost her love for the people of that community and the values she learned growing up there, both of which she passed along to her children. She was a long-time active member of Salem United Methodist Church in Conway, Arkansas, where she started, and it continues today, a food pantry serving needy families in Conway. Nellie loved The Lord and did her best to live Christ’s commandment to “Love one another, as I have loved you.” She was kind to everyone, thankful and appreciative, always ready to help others, and never without a smile on her face. What made her happiest were the simple pleasures of life: sitting on the front porch swing; working her garden and flowers; watching the birds; fishing; dancing; and most of all being around family and friends. She was a positive influence on the lives of all who knew her. Preceding her in passing were her parents Monroe & Maggie White; brothers Travis & William White; sisters Inez Thomas and Marjorie Craig; husbands Kenneth Henshaw, Ray Grimes & Robert Robertson; and grandson Kenneth Henshaw. She is survived by her sister Ethel Stiles; children Thomas (TJ) Henshaw and Brenda Glover; grandchildren Kimberly Henshaw, Leah Hales, and Jim Glover; great-grandchildren Stone Dillon, Maggie Hales-Saxena, Cora Hales, Houston Glover, Mitchell Glover, and Elsa Glover; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at the 16th Section Cemetery in Drew County. Visitation will be Friday evening 5:30-6:30 pm at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello. Donations may be made and are appreciated to the Sixteenth Section/Valley Cemetery Association, c/o Renee Knowles.
