Larry Gene Hopkins, age 76 of Monticello passed away July 9, 2023, at his home. He was born January 19, 1947, in Newport, AR to the late Earl Hopkins and Lillie Mae Wells Hopkins. He was a 1965 graduate of Grubbs High School. He was drafted by the United States Army and honorably served as a Combat Medic in the Vietnam War. After returning home, he graduated from DeVry Technical Institute and began a career with Southwestern Bell that spanned four decades. He was a 42-year member of Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Communication Workers of America. He enjoyed the great outdoors, gardening, hunting, and camping. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 48 years, Joyce Causey Hopkins; one sister, Madeline Montgomery; one brother, Roger Hopkins; and one brother-in-law, Bobby Brown. Survivors include two daughters, Terri (Michael) Cossey and Holli Wood; grandsons, Nate and Chase Wood; siblings, Danny (Beth) Hopkins, Shelia Haskett, and Gary (Sandra) Hopkins; along with a host of nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his wife’s family, Brenda Brown, Sherrill (Bill) Scroggins, Mike (Brenda) Causey, Connie (Tom) Ollie, Mark (Tina) Causey, and Vaughn Causey; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
