Herbert Reginald Glover, age 90 of Monticello, AR, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at The Woods Nursing and Rehab in Monticello. He was born August 20, 1933, in Cleveland County, AR to the late William Herbert Glover and Ruby Antoinette Mosley Glover. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty McKelvy Glover.
He was a retired President of Commercial Bank, a proud United States Army Veteran, and has been a member of Pauline Missionary Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church where he served as Deacon at both. As President and CEO of Commercial Bank, community building was Glover’s goal in his career and his spare time, fulfilling leadership roles in the Monticello/Drew County Chamber of Commerce, Monticello Industrial Development Corporation, Southeast Arkansas Private Industry Council, Arkansas Good Roads Transportation Council, South Arkansas Venture Enterprises, Inc., and Southeast Arkansas Regional Intermodal Authority. He was recognized as Industrial Developer of the Year for the Fourth Congressional District, Drew County’s Man of the Year, and with the City of Monticello’s Distinguished Service Award. Glover dedicated much of his energy to serving his alma mater, the University of Arkansas, Monticello. He served terms as chairman of the UAM Foundation Fund and director of the Boll Weevil Sports Association. He and his friend Hugh Heflin worked tirelessly as volunteers to fundraise for various UAM projects. Glover was recognized with UAM’s Alumni Award for Achievement and Merit and the Continuing the Connection Award.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ruth Gorman Glover of Monticello; one daughter, Gina Glover Crawford and husband Jim of Pineville, LA; one son, Andy Glover and wife Amber of Bentonville; one step -daughter, Susan Hollinger and husband Hank of Monticello; nine grandchildren, Cassidy Crawford, Chelsea Crawford and husband Ken, Gray, Ryan and Matthew Glover all of Rogers, and Coen, Isabella, Case and Beckett Glover of Bentonville; four step-grandchildren, Kimberly Welch and husband Lyle of Monticello, Ryan Fenton and wife Summer of Bentonville, Jackie Sharp of North Little Rock and Will Medlin of Kansas City, MO; two great-grandchildren, Zadie and James Hancock of Pineville, LA; three step great-grandchildren, Kayla Welch, Savannah and Austin Fenton; and two step great-great-grandchildren, Everly Ruth Welch and River Newton.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024, in Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Larry Clements and Rev. Ray Hearron officiating.
