Marvin Odis Allen, age 91 of Monticello, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Belleview Nursing Home and Rehab in Monticello. He was born May 1, 1924 in Monticello to the late Thomas Lee Allen and Linnie Marie Calhoun Allen. He was also preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Hazel Watts Allen; his daughter, Judy Allen Chatman; a brother, Bobby G. Allen and a sister, Dois Willis.
Odis was a World War II United States Army veteran where he received the Purple Heart in combat. Upon returning home after the war, he was a carpenter and managed a dry cleaning and service station business. He then began a career in law enforcement in the Monticello Police Department where he retired as Chief of Police. He also served with the Monticello Fire Department and was a member of Pauline Baptist Church for over fifty years.
Survivors include his grandson, Brandon McKiever of Monticello; a granddaughter, Amanda McKiever of Gidding, TX; two great-grandchildren, Kolder and Landree both of Gidding, TX; one brother, Lee Edward Allen of Crossett; one sister, Mae Nell Sawyer of Little Elm, TX; a sister-in-law, Elna Allen of Monticello; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with Rev. Buddy Lemons, Rev. Chad Graves and Rev. Larry Clements officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello with military honors. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
