Mrs. Robizine Gardner Wells, age 100 of Monticello, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at her home in Monticello. She was born September 15, 1915 in Monticello, AR to the late Wilson Ples and Christina Gardner.
She accepted Christ early in her life and was an active and diligent servant for the Lord. Mrs. Wells joined St. Mary AME Church and served in various capacities over the years to help the church achieve its many goals. She served as President of the Missionary Society, Class Leader, Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School and as a member of the usher board. She truly loved the Lord and her church and was a devoted, faithful member until her health failed. She definitely believed in the power of prayer. She was a devoted wife and mother who took care of her family as well as others in the community. “Momma Rob” was a homemaker who was an excellent cook who could make a tasty meal out of anything and was known for her fruit cakes far and near.
Robizine Wells was affectionately called “Momma Rob” by her grandchildren. She was a very outspoken person as she said what she meant and meant what she said. She never met a stranger and was loved and respected by all who knew her well. Robizine loved nature and being outdoors and was an excellent fisherman who enjoyed fishing with her family and friends. Robizine was married to Nathaniel Wells and, to their union, they were blessed with twelve children. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six children and 15 siblings.
Cherishing her precious memories are four sons, Wilson (Magnolia) and Dwight (Joyce) Wells both of Monticello, George (Marie) Wells of Inglewood, CA, and Winfort (Virgil) Wells of Compton, CA; five daughters, Eupharzine (James) Clifton, Jessie Williams, Stella (Jerry) Gray and Juanita Spencer, all of Monticello and Elizabeth (James) Ingram of Hot Springs; a special niece, Hallie Lynch; Linda Nimmer, a granddaughter she helped raise; a special son, Andrew Wells; twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, one great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. Her special caregivers will cherish her memories, her son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Joyce, her daughter, Stella, and niece, Patricia Jordan.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with burial in Brooks Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
