Virgil Briggs, 70 of Monticello passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015. He was born August 16, 1945 in Monticello (Selma) Arkansas. He was the eleventh child of thirteen children born to the late Rev. William T. Briggs and the late Emma Langdon Briggs.
Virgil acknowledge Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at the Sixteen Section M B Church in Selma AR. He received his formal education at Selma Elementary and Monticello High School. He continued his higher education at the University of Pine Bluff (formerly AM &N College) in Pine Bluff, AR where he
received a B S degree in Commercial Art. He enlisted in the army after graduation where he served for several years; he entered the education department and taught school in Moscow, AR, and in Denver, CO.
Virgil moved to Flint, MI in the late seventies where he worked 17 years for G M, he was a supervisor in the department of Chevrolet Mfg. Virgil's pastime included fishing and drawing; he especially enjoyed drawing portrait of individuals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. William T. Briggs and Mrs. Emma Langdon Briggs, three brothers, Earl, Curtis, and Adrain Briggs, one sister, Willie M. Ferrell.
Virgil is survived by three children, Christie, Ann Marie, and Michael Briggs of Flint, MI, four brothers, LTC Ed Briggs of Acton, Jesse L. Briggs of Flint, MI, William T., and Bennie J. of AR and three sisters, Narvel B. May of Dallas, Thelma Briggs of AR, and Gladys Briggs of Chicago, IL, His memory will also be cherished by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Sixteen Section Cemetery. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
