J.R. Pace, age 74 of the Green Hill community (Drew County), went to be with his Lord Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. He went peacefully and was surrounded by his loved ones. He was born May 6, 1942 in Drew County, AR to the late Johnny Rastus Pace and Alice Jewel Ellis Pace.
JR was a hardworking, successful farmer, cattleman and carpenter, and attended the Green Hill Baptist Church. He was very instrumental in the construction of the Green Hill Baptist Church and Green Hill Methodist Community Center. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, India Self Pace.
In his spare time, J.R. loved to hunt quail and squirrel. He loved his family and his greatest joy was watching his grandkids play ball. In his early years, he served in the 1122nd Transportation Company of the National Guard. J.R. was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Betty, father to Scott and Keith and Papaw to John David, Jaye Lauren, Emma Kate and Gracen Hope.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Huskey Pace of Green Hill; two sons, Scott Pace and Keith Pace both of Green Hill; three brothers, Roger Pace and wife Jackie of Monticello, Shannon Pace of Green Hill and Paul Pace and wife Donna of Monticello; three sisters, Martha Beard of Monticello, Becky Roberts and husband Merchel of Crossett and Pam Blann and husband Tony of Crossett; two grandchildren, John David and Jaye Lauren; two great grandchildren, Emma Kate and Gracen Hope along with their mother, Heidi; his many farm laborers who were like family; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and relatives.
Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home with Rev. Wayman Mann and Rev. Caleb Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.
