Charles Paul Savage, age 78 of Monticello, quietly went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, November 17, 2016 at his home with his wife Peggy Gober Savage by his side. He was born on May 17, 1938 to the late Woody and Ethel Hotaling Savage in White Oaks, NM. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Woody and Ethel Savage; his special aunt, Maggie Hotaling; his brothers, Bob Harmon of Bakersfield, CA and Boze Savage of Cottonwood AZ; his grandson, Brian Savage; and his daughter in law, Connie Savage. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy Gober Savage; one daughter, Valerie (Mark) Perry of Jacksonville; one son, Steve Savage of Jacksonville; grandchildren Logan Perry (Janey), Blake Perry, Emilee Perry, Christopher Savage (Kelly), Ashley Smith (Hayden); four great grandchildren, Kase Perry, Gavin Savage, Jaxson Savage and John Thomas Savage and also one on the way; his very special in-laws, Hershel and Mary Lou Gober, Bill and Marilyn Gober, and Sharon Harmon; his nieces, Reggie Evans (Frank), Cathy Morris (Leroy), Pam Castleman, Patty Castleman, Laura Whitaker (Greg), Elizabeth Gober, and Kim Hyams; and his nephews, Curt Wayne Gober (Lori), Sheriff Mark Gober, Jeff Gober (Jamie), Chris Gober (Pam), Jason Gober (Johnye) and Mike Gober (Donna). Charles was a 1957 graduate of Drew Central High School and attended Arkansas A & M College and began his career working on the railroad. In 1965 while living in Stuttgart, he began his Insurance career with GMAC and then went to work for MFA, before joining the Gosnell Insurance Agency in 1972 as a partner. The agency later became the Gosnell-Savage Insurance agency and after Bill Gosnell passed away it became the Savage Insurance Agency which he was a part of until 2005 when he retired from the Insurance Business after 40 years. He spent the rest of his time taking care of his rental properties, traveling with his wife Peggy and spending time with his family. He was known as Poppa and Uncle Charles to all of his family. He loved flying his airplane and riding motorcycles with all of his great friends. Charles was involved in many state and local activities. He was President of the Monticello Riding Club, President of the Drew County Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Monticello Airport Commission, The Professional Insurance Agents of Arkansas as a board member and as President in 1993. He was a faithful member of Pauline Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 19th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home, 943 Highway 425 North, Monticello, Arkansas. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Oakland Cemetery. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.
