Georgia LeeAnn Avant Barnett, age 69 of Monticello, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at her home in Monticello. She was born October 26, 1947 in Hampton, AR to the late Marvin Elvin Avant and Ollie Frances Grisham Avant.
She was the widow of William Barnett, Sr., a retired nurse’s aide who cared for the elderly and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Stephanie Leann Beard. Georgia’s family was her greatest love. She enjoyed not only being with them but cooking for them at family functions. Her hobbies included yard work, growing flowers, making arts and crafts and fishing. Due to her love for people, she had many over the years call her “Mama”.
Survivors include one son, William Barnett, Jr. of Monticello; two brothers, Robert Avant and Dean Avant both of Star City; one sister, Diane Avant of Star City; one special grandson “the apple of her eye”, Dustin Barnett of Hope; numerous nieces and nephews; two very special friends, Jana Wright and Russ Beard; and her special loving companion dog, “Baby”. The family would like to issue a special thank-you to Marvin Avant, Jr, her nephew, that helped take care of her.
Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2017 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Rash Cemetery. Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
