Floyd Lenard Daniels, 86 departed this life on December 7, 2013 at his home in Monticello. He was born on November 22, 1927 to the late Thurston and Willie Daniels in Drew County. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Albert Daniels, Thurstee Daniels, George Daniels and Earl Daniels and one sister, Mary Shaw.

After graduating from high school, Floyd joined the US Army Air Corps and served his country at Randolph Field in Texas. Following his discharge from the Army Air Corps, Floyd studied accounting at the Milwaukee Area Technical College. He subsequently moved to California and obtained a BS degree in Business Education from the University of LaVerne and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from the University of San Francisco.

He spent over twenty-five years in the field of education which enabled him to gain experience in the following areas: Business education teacher and coordinator, financial coordinator and counselor for the Los Angeles Unified School District; Instructor, advisor and coordinator of the Masters program in Educational Administration at the University of San Francisco; Counselor-career advisor and coordinator of telecommunication programs for the Abram Friedman Occupational Center; Instructor of instructional processes in vocational education at UCLA; Young Adult Advisor and coordinator at Central Adult High School; Assistant Principal at the Fairfax Community Adult School.

Floyd also earned the following credentials during his working career: Administrative Service Credential (Life) – Administrative; Ryan Designated Subjects (Life) K-Adult – Accounting and General Office Occupations; Standard Designated Subjects (Life) Adult – Accounting, Office Procedure, Machine and Typewriting; Community College (Life) – Accounting, Office Services & Related Technologies; Standard Designated Subjects (Life) Adult – English as second language & Basic Education.

Some of Floyd’s other accomplishments included an appointment to the Advisory Commission for the County of San Bernardino. While on this commission, he wrote a 125 page handbook for ROC Principals and Assistant Principals. He also received a proclamation from the city of West Hollywood for outstanding work in the community for the betterment of life for immigrants.

Floyd also enjoyed membership in the following professional organizations during his work career: Association of California School Administrators, Association of Administrators of Los Angeles, California Association of Regional Occupational Programs.

Floyd retired as an assistant principal in Los Angeles in 1992 and moved back to Monticello where he worked for eight years as a Paraprofessional in the Monticello School District.


Floyd felt that he was called by God at an early age. He was ordained as a minister while he was in Los Angeles and later received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree. In following his religious calling, he became an Associate Minister at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where he taught Bible Study and preached the Word. Continuing to follow God’s call, he became the interim pastor for the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church and pastor of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church before returning to Morning Star. Following his eight years of work for the Monticello School District, he worked for three years as a chaplain for Home Hospice Care.

Reverend Daniels leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving wife of twenty years, Becky D. Daniels of Monticello; four daughters, Elaine (John) Meadows of Milwaukee, WI, Lisa Foley of Las Vegas, NV, Tereasa Franklin of Washington State and Denesha Manning of Plano, TX; six sons, Lloyd (Shirlene) Daniels of Chicago, IL, Kirby (Wendy) Daniels of Campbellsport, WI, Jeffery (Leah) Daniels of Long Beach, CA, Corey (Tosha) Courtney of Ft. Worth, TX, Eric (Lawanda) Courtney of Tampa, FL and Donald (Africia) Manning of Woodbridge, VA. Also mourning his passing are two sisters, Gracie Matthews of Oxnard, CA and twin sister, Florence Butler of Los Angeles, CA; twenty-nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including one of his sons in Christ, Deacon Norman Mapp.
