Edward Wells, age 88 of Monticello, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at his home in Monticello. He was born April 15, 1929 in Monticello, AR to the late Loveless Wells and Nancy Mae Spencer Wells.

Edward was christened as an infant in the AME Church and was an active member of the Pilgrim Rest AME Church in Monticello where he served as Steward, Trustee, Lay President, Choir member, Son of Allen member and Church School Teacher. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Loveless Leron Wells, Hubert Wells and Leslie Wardell Wells; two sisters, Martha Alzene Jones and Betty Jean Lindsey; and one grandson, Corey Adkins.

Edward leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife of 61 years, Ruby L Stanford Wells of Monticello; one son, Keith (Sammie) Wells, Sr. of Monticello; two daughters, Janice Wells of Kansas City, MO and Mary L. Wells; three grandchildren, Shabrae Polite, Anthony Wells and Keith Wells, Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Kaydence Burks. Also mourning Edwards passing are one brother, Andrew Wells; three sisters, Nancy (Leon) Stearns, Shirley (Charles) Wilson and Dorris Wells all of Monticello; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Stanford of Dermott and Rebecca Cook of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Pilgrim Rest AME Church with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.

Jamison and Wells Era began anew in Monticello Arkansas. Wells aggressively and with integrity became the Captain that Politically motivated the powerful influential Majority Leadership take grasp of this new innovative concept and the Pilgrim Rest Apartment Project became the first Public Multifamily Housing in South Arkansas and the the Edward Wells diplomacy gave the lucrative Majority Leadership then, Bennie Ryburn Sr, Zack McClendon, Mayor James T. Jordan and the legendary developers Billy Hartness and Charles Fred Dearman emerge from this giant of a man concepts and recommendations that developed Monticello Arkansas from a Second and Third World Socio-economic Settings into the Role Model Rural City in the Lower Mississippi Delta and Mid South USA.
    Edward Wells who also was an advocate supporter of Baseball and Parks and Recreation joining with the legendary Albert Williams and Dewey Henley developed two innovative Ethnic Culture Municipal Parks, The Historic McCloy and James T Jordan and Albert M Williams Municipal Park's.
    The fruits of Edward Eugene Wells Legacy is extended via his Entrepreneur Trucking Company ( Wells Trucking) by his most remarkable Honorable Son, Keith Wells who is a Stella Honorable Respectable Member of the Historic Monticello School District Board of Education and like his dad an advocate community initiatives integral leader for the betterment of Monticello Arkansas and the Region it service.
