He was a retired electrician, United States Army and Air Corp Veteran and a Christian of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, E. J. Carter and Marshall "Dink" Carter.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Arleta Rodgers Carter of Monticello; one son, Mark W. Carter and wife Rita of Sheppards Island; one daughter, Nicki Carter Knight of Benton; two brothers, Loy Carter and wife Helen of Ft. Worth, TX and Don Carter and wife Freda of Benton; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Rodgers of Monticello and Mary Carter of Euless, TX; three grandsons, Curt Evans of Dayton, TN, Seth Evans and wife Keri of Benton and Tyler Carter and wife Hannah of Star City; one granddaughter, Holly Carter Wilson and husband Kevin of Star City; and four great-grandchildren, Kade, Layla, Emmett and Mason.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with Rev. Larry Clements officiating. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.
