He was retired assistant foreman for the Arkansas Highway Transportation Department and was a member of South Side Baptist Church in Hamburg. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Sondra Rouse and his father-in-law, Edward Akin.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Tana Akin Vail of Hamburg; three daughters, Pamela Vail of Ward, Tarrah Smithson and husband Richard of Milton, GA and Brittany Phillips and husband Dustin of Monticello; eight grandchildren, Steele, Anna, Ava, Addison, Megan, Sydney, Kohl and Aiden; three great-grandchildren, Bentley, Avery and Adalynn; one brother, Glen Vail of Bastrop; one sister, Deborah Mattison and husband Doug of Forrest City; his mother-in-law, Joy Dell Akin of Hamburg; sisters-in-law, Darlene Skender and husband Paul of Crossett, Wendy Dailey and husband John of Hamburg; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2019 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to service Friday at the funeral home. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
