James was educated in the Wilmar School District graduating in 1982. During his high school years, he pursued and enjoyed being a member of the Wilmar Longhorns Basketball Team and was an awesome player. James attended Chauffeurs Truck Driving School in Chicago, IL where he obtained his CDL drivers license and became a log truck driver. He also was employed by Cliff Gibson as a farm hand. He was of the Jehovah Witness faith.
James leaves to cherish his memory the mother of his two children, Barbara Jones; two sons, James Boulware, III (Mariela) and LeChristian Boulware; three grandchildren, Julliane, Christain and LeChristian Boulware, Jr.; his grandmother, Hazel Johnson; three sisters, Cindy Shipp (Melvin), Connie Boulware and Dollee Anderson; three brothers, Fredrick Thompson, Jermaine Johnson (Rhonda) and Corey Courtney; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
