Shirrill Don Fowler, age 86 of Monticello, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, August 5, 2021, at his home. He was born August 4, 1935, in Damascus, AR to the late Chester and Birdie Ethel Kendell Fowler.
He was retired from Wal Mart and a Baptist. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lexie Mayo Fowler; two brothers, Ronald Fowler and Johnny Fowler; and one sister, Reba Booth. After marrying Lexie in 1977, Shirrill became an instant stepfather to five grown children. Relationships with a stepfather can be tricky, but sometimes you end up with a chosen father better than one could ever imagine. Shirrill was so much more than a stepfather, he made the choice to love us all unconditionally, when he did not have to. We all know that anybody can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad and that is why we called him "Dad", because he was always there and supportive of all of us. He was truly special!
Survivors include his five step children, Faye Vance (Dippy) of Monticello, Regina Dalsis of Liberty Hill, TX, Robbie Donaldson of Liberty Hill, TX, Jimmy Davis (Barbara) of Franklin, TX and Bob Davis (Lu) of Hamburg; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Union Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Trey Emory officiating. Memorials may be made to the Monticello Senior Citizens Center. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.

It was only today that I learned of Mr. Shirrill's passing after reading the latest edition of the Advance-Monticellonian. I worked with him for several years before I joined the Marine Corps back in October of 2009. I am truly saddened to hear he is no longer with us. From his obituary, it seems he loved, and was loved, by his stepchildren and family, and, in the end, I think that's all any of us can hope for in this world when we check out. Rest easy, Mr. Shirrill. If there was a god you believed in and prayed to, I hope they welcomed you home.
