She was the widow of William Kenneth Burton, a retired schoolteacher and a member of Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Kathryne was a 1959 honor graduate of Drew Central High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, a class officer, member of FHA, the annual staff, along with many other clubs. She also was a member of the Drew Central basketball team for four years. She attended Arkansas A&M University (now UAM) where she graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science and Education degree in English and Math. Kathryne was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she participated in various community projects. She was also a proud member of the Col. David Love, Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter (DAR) where she served as Regent from 2010-2012.
She loved horses, barrel racing, and ''running off'' on her horse as a teenager. Kathryne loved to talk and socialize and never met a stranger. She also loved genealogy and antique cars where she enjoyed going on trips and car shows with her husband and friends. However, the greatest love of her life was her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. They were truly the light of her life! In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Scott Brian Burton.
Mrs. Kathryne is survived by a son, Brett Burton and wife Rene; a daughter, Samantha Burton Hewitt and husband Jimmy; one brother, Gary Crook; five grandchildren, Chelsea Burton French and husband Todd, Scott Allen Hewitt, Devin Burton and wife Ali, Mary Kathryne Hewitt and Kenneth Cole Hewitt all of Monticello; three great-grandchildren, Braxton French, Holden French and Ila Burton; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dwayne Roper and Rev. Gary Carter officiating. There will be a visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Ridge Cemetery. You can sign Mrs. Kathryne's guestbook registry on this page.

Monticello, AR Monday, July 15, 2024 I'm so sorry to hear about one of my favorite teachers. She was great at teaching. The last time I seen her family was having a birthday party. Her and Pete sit and talk for the longest time. When we got home Pete told me how much he enjoyed visiting with her and she is one smart Lady. My heart felt prayers are coming your way. I guess her and Pete can sit around and have some more educated conversations. Prayers.Sharon Debra K Parker Hayden

Lots of conversations…sometimes long…but always interesting. She loved her family and was so very proud of all of you. Although we are all heartbroken, she is rejoicing…happy, healthy, and enjoying her forever home. Heaven is full of conversations I have no doubt. Mr. Kenneth is giving her “the look” but catching up with all that has happened. We will see her again.Love and prayers,

Monticello, AR Friday, July 5, 2024 I'm so sorry about Kathryne. Through college, teaching and Beta Sigma Phi events, I became friends with her. In recent years, I had lost contact with her. I always enjoyed her company so much. She could make a clay statue talk back. Kathryn was a chatterbox but was no airhead. She was sharp as a tack and was very knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects. She was a woman of great courage and substance.lelia davis

Monticello, AR Thursday, July 4, 2024 Kathryne a great friend, teacher and mentor. She helped me so very much when I started teaching. She was caring and loved her students unconditionally. When they hurt she hurt. She may not have shown the students when she was emotionally upset because of situations in their lives but she prayed and cried for them and called out their names to Jesus. She will be missed by so many. I pray comfort and peace for the family. Always remember she loved you.James and Kathy Berry
