Mildred 'Tess' Hackney Ellis, 90 of LaHabra, CA, formerly of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at her home. She was born August 14, 1920 in Monticello.

She retired after 34 years as an inspector for Continental Can Company and was of the Protestant faith. She was the daughter of the late John Hackney and Inez Johnson Hackney and was preceded in death by two brothers, Terrell Hackney and Eugene Hackney; three sisters, Maurice Miller, Bonnie Thurman and Mary Whitehead.

Survivors include one son, Donald Gene Barrett of LaHabra, CA; one daughter, L. Ann Shockey of LaHabra, CA; one grandson, Brett Eugene Shockey of LaHabra, CA; one great-daughter, Robyn Nicole Shockey of LaHabra, CA; several nieces and nephews.

    Tess was married to my Uncle Herbert and I remember her fondly. I used to love to visit them in La Mirada because she was so lovely and made me laugh.
    I remember the two of you, too and have thought of all of you through the years.
    I prayed for eternal rest for Tess yesterday at mass and peace for you and your families.
