Hollis Handly, 94, of Monticello, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 at his home. He was born November 16, 1916 in Drew County, the son of the late Garland and Zilpha Brooks Handly.

He retired from Burlington Rug Mill, was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Star City. After retiring, he continued to work on the farm. He was always busy. He loved to raise a garden, talk to people and most importantly, attend church or try to get others to go to church. His favorite pastime was working, not like most of us watching sports on TV or just watching TV.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Esil Morrison Handly, three sisters, nine brothers and several nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his wife, Irene White Handly of Monticello; one daughter, Louise Byerly of Monticello; one son, Jimmy Handly of Monticello; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; lots of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
