Mary Frances Lewis Millen was born July 4, 1910, in the town of Powersville, MO to the late William F. and Vella Hill Lewis. She attended Powersville Grade School and graduated from Powersville High School. She received her teaching certificate from Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College. On August 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Millen in Roswell, New Mexico.

Mrs. Millen was a career teacher, having retired with 35 years of service. Mary's adventure took her from Missouri to New Mexico, Louisiana (Barksdale Air Force Base) and Spain (NAS Rota Air Fore Base) and Arkansas. She loved and valued her work as a teacher of young children.

She enjoyed the delicate German art of tatting, crocheting, painting, collecting paper weights and bells from many countries she and Bob visited. Mrs. Millen was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed the annual Lewis/Hill family reunions with her sisters, nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, three brothers, William Joseph, Robert Andrew and Paul Warren Lewis and one sister, Louise Williams and was a long time member of Rose Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include one sister, Claramae Schmitt of Saint Jo, TX; two nieces, Nellie Jo Bostian of Monticello and Pat Gavin of Herbine, who were her faithful caregivers along with several other nephews and nieces.

Her family would like to thank all of the staff, friends and neighbors of the Beverly Healthcare Center for their care, concern and support. She often expressed how blessed she was to have a home in a community like Monticello. Mary believed that to be a good servant of God, you had to follow Jesus along a narrow path and believe in the Law of the Ten Commandments.

In 1956-57, Mrs. Millen introduced me to the joys of reading in her first-grade classroom at R.V. Kerr Elementary near Barksdale AFB. While I regret I was unable to thank her until now, I was pleased to read of her rich and full life. I am sure I am not the only student who remembers her with respect and fondness.

Mrs. Fran was one of the kindest people Ive ever known. Always as sharp as a tack, visiting with her was always a joy. She loved everyone and made everyone feel special. Our church family at Rose Hill Cumberland Presbyterian has missed her so much since she got to the point she could no longer attend. She will be missed by all, but we rejoice that she is now with Mr Bob in the loving arms of Jesus.
