Send Flowers Send Flowers
Pattie Phenton Moffatt, 89, departed this life Tuesday, January 24 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock of complications from pneumonia. The youngest child of Myrtle Wells Moffatt and Walter A. Moffatt, Sr., she was born in Monticello June 20, 1922 at the family home where she lived her entire life.

Pattie was educated in Monticello and graduated from Arkansas A & M (now UAM) in 1943. After working in the post office and as city secretary, she was made City Clerk, the first woman in Monticello to hold a city administrative office. Around 1952 Pattie became periodicals librarian at Arkansas A & M continuing there until her retirement in 1982. She and her sister enjoyed traveling the world in their retirement and playing bridge as often as possible.

Having no children of her own, Pattie kept up with her nieces and the families of her many cousins and friends. She never met a stranger and was a gracious hostess. She and her sister opened their home for many family gatherings, to visiting relatives and to UAM alumni during homecoming. She was extremely generous and rarely asked for anything for herself.

Pattie's community involvement included Junior Auxiliary, The University Dames and SEARK Concert Association. She was a life member of the Drew County Historical Society, Friends of the Library and Wood Avenue (ARP) Presbyterian Church where she lent her vocal talent for most of her life.

Preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Walter, Wells, and Minnie, she is survived by her sister-in-law Ruth Moffatt and niece Marsha Moffatt Daniels (Bill), both of Monticello and two great-nieces, Natalie Daniels Atkins (Justin) of Little Rock and Meredith Daniels of Nashville, TN.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28 at Wood Avenue Church (Corner of Church St. & Wood Ave.) Burial will be private. The family will gather at 469 S. Main St. in Monticello on Friday afternoon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Drew County Historical Society, 404 S. Main, Monticello, AR 71655 or to Wood Avenue Presbyterian Church, c/o James Cathey, 502 N. Main, Monticello. Arrangements are by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. You may visit www.stephensondearman.com to sign the online guest register.

    Marsha,

I am so sorry for your and your family's loss. Your aunts were very special to me. Anyone who grew up in Monticello knowing Pattie, and all your family, will remember how kind and respectful they were. I am thinking of you.

I was very saddened to learn of Patti's death; you all have my deepest sympathy. It was always a joy to work in the library with Patti and she truly was a very generous and giving person with her time and help. I am truly sorry to hear of her death.
  11. Glenn & Cindy Brazzel
We were very sad to hear of Pattie's passing. Glenn & I were just in Monticello over the New Year's weekend to have a family memorial for Glenn's mom, Margaret Whaley. Pattie was to be at that service, but instead ended up in the hospital herself. We were able to go visit her that afternoon and found her sitting up in her chair in very high spirits. She talked of family members and times gone by. We would have told anyone she would have been at home within a couple of days. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye now to her.
  12. Larry Ku
Miss Moffatt's friendship spanned generations. Her adult friends' children grew later in life -- often decades later -- to find they were hers too. All the Kus miss her already. Tim, Vicki, Larry, Albert, and Barbara
  13. Lamar Williamson, Jr;
Pattie Phenton Moffatt's death marks the end of three generations of Wells and Williamson close ties. Requiescat in pace from her slightly younger friend,

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. We had wonderful times with the Moffatts and always called them our "cousins" on the Wells side.

Ms. Pattie was my "boss" at the A&M library in the early 60's. I had the highest respect for her then and that respect grew even stronger as the years passed. She always had a story to tell about the library or A&M of "olden" days and she was a wonderful conversationalist. Monticello is a better place because Ms. Pattie was here, but I know Heaven is a better place because she is there. May she rest in a well-deserved peace. I will remember her the remainder of my days.
  21. Phe Chandler Parks
So sorry to hear of Pattie's death. All of our family will truly miss a wonderful lady we considered one of our Wells relatives.
