Sister Shirley Mae Polk was born September 7, 1938 to the union of Consevella and Julius Polk, Jr. of Simon Section, Arkansas. She was the eldest of three children.

She received her formal education in the Dermott School System. In 1958 Shirley migrated to Chicago, Illinois. There she worked for the United States Postal Service until her retirement in 1995.

Shirley had a very special relationship with God and had accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Saviour at an early age while attending Mount Olive Baptist Church, at Hurds, Arkansas. While in Chicago Shirley was an active member of The Upper Room Church. She enjoyed many church activities including singing in the church choir, actively attending prayer group, Bible Studies, and ministering to the sick. She remained a dutiful servant to the Lord until He took her home to be with Him.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brothers, Samuel and Ronny James Polk.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories; her son and daughter in-law, Kenneth and Julie Polk of Rio Rancho, NM; her daughter, Angela Polk of Lake Village, AR; her grandchildren, Aliesha Maxwell of Monticello, AR, Brandon Polk of Monticello, AR, Kenya Polk of Jacksonville, FL and Sheldynn Polk of Rio Rancho, NM; her great-grandchildren, De'Miyah & Jaivon Maxwell of Monticello, AR, nieces, nephews and a host of many other relatives and friends.
