I served in the armed forces.
James Elbert Cooper, 85, went to be with Lord on September 19, 2012. He was a servant of the Lord, and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born on April 7, 1927.

On February 14, 1949, he and his loving wife, Jewel were united in marriage. Together they had three children, Gene, Fred and Theresa. He was a retired machinist, U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a strong Christian man and a member and deacon of Cominto Baptist Church. He spent his life caring for others, being a strong example of God's love.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ervin and Fannie Jones Cooper; three sisters, Wanette, Lucille and Leta Faye and one brother Ervin.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jewell of Monticello; two sons, Gene Cooper and wife Sandi of Concord, NC, and Fred Cooper and wife Joy of Monticello; one daughter, Theresa Sanders and husband William of Star City; one sister Irene McReynolds of Sheridan; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren.
