He was a long-time friend from our early childhood and remained a friend even after we left Monticello. Gary's family was very special to our family. We will always remember Gary and his sense of humor, his postive attitude about everything, and his connection with history. He loved God, his family, his friends, and his country. Rector, AR Wednesday, September 25, 2013 To Gary's family, My thoughts and prayers are with you as the world has lost a wonderful person in Gary. He and I became friends when I worked a temporary FSA job in Little Rock several yrs. ago. Gary and I kept in touch after my job was over and I moved to my hometown of Rector in Clay county. Gary and I would get together for lunch when I would visit down in Little Rock and it always made me feel good to be around him, hear his laughter and share in those wonderful stories! Gary could make me laugh like no one else could. I know he is up in heaven telling those great stories right now... RIP, Gary, I will really miss you...Linda hoppers Naron

Monticello, AR Wednesday, September 25, 2013 My earliest memory of Gary was riding on the back of his bicycle. He was Judy's big brother and was sweet to her and her playmate friends Ann and Faye Bates. Because of Gary we were able to explore the railroad tracks and beyond. I was never afraid when Gary was with us. Not too many big brothers would hang with little sister and friends, but Gary did and that speaks volumes about the kind person he was. The Hatley family has always been so much fun and I pray you will continue to draw on all your great memories of your big brother Gary. I love you all.Josephine Williams

MARVELL, AR Tuesday, September 24, 2013 I WAS SO UPSET TO HEAR ABOUT GARY! I GOT TO WORK FOR HIM A FEW YEARS AND HE WAS A GREAT BOSS. HE WAS ALWAYS COMICAL. HE KEPT ME LAUGHING AND HE WAS ALSO A VERY SMART MAN! I HAD TO QUIT IN 2006 BECAUSE OF MY MS. HE WAS IN THE STATE OFFICE AT THAT TIME. EVERYTIME I HAD TO GO SEE MY MS DR IN LITTLE ROCK, ME AND MY SISTER WOULD MEET HIM FOR LUNCH. I ENJOYED VISITING WITH HIM. HE WAS STILL VERY COMICAL!!! I'M GOING TO MISS HIM DEARLY!Rhonda Hatley
Monticello, AR Tuesday, September 24, 2013 After his father (my father-in-law) passed away, Gary became the patriarch of our family. He was my husband's big brother and we looked to him for wisdom and guidance. Byron talked with his brother on a regular basis. Gary was my big brother too, especially after I lost my own big brother. Gary took on the weight of the responsibilities of the family after his mother passed away a year and half ago and it felt so good to have a big brother taking care of us. We now have to carry on and use his example and "step up to the plate". He will certainly be missed. One of the many things I love about the Hatley family is the family gatherings. There is always laughing, jokes, singing, eating (of course) and most of all love for our Heavenly Father. As we gather together during the next couple of days, all of those things will take place but there will be a hole in our heart and it won't be as loud because we won't have Gary's wonderful stories and laughter. Till we meet again Gary...........Gary & Paula Cochran

Searcy, AR Tuesday, September 24, 2013 Gary's passing has hurt all his friends at FSA. He will be greatly missed. Gary was an awesome person. He was one of the kindest men I have ever know. He tried to be gruff, but his goodness always shone through. He was a true gentlemen. He loved his family and his friends. He shared some memories of his childhood and some of his children and his grandchildren growing up. No one could tell a story like Gary. He told me that one time a horse ran away with him, said he was hanging on, pulling back on the reins and hollering. Said the Wal-Mart manager finally came out and unplugged the machine and saved him! As a horsewoman, I was falling for the story until he said the Wal Mart manager unplugged it. He sure got a kick out of that. My heart breaks for his family. I know your hearts are broken but I also know you have wonderful memories of your father and your grandfather. You know where he is. Our beloved Gary is looking into the face of our Beloved Jesus! May God comfort and strengthen you as only He can do.Christine Valdez

Forrest City, AR Tuesday, September 24, 2013 I will really miss Mr. Hatley. Such a wonderful man. He has always given me some kind of words & encouragements or if, it was a funny joke. Monticello, AR Tuesday, September 24, 2013 We want to give our love and prayers to the Hatley family. I have been neighbors with the Hatley family just about all of my life. Gary was a little younger than myself but remember him well as neighbors and at Enon School. As Gary wrote on my mother`s guest book, when we lost her, that it took a community back then to raise all of us kids. Everybody looked after each others children as we fished and swam in all the cow ponds any where in walking distance. So I grew up knowing Gary and Judy. Later years our daughter Rhonda married Gary`s brother Byron so we have had times to visit at family gatherings and we always enjoyed his wit and friendly smile. I admired his dedication to his mother after she became ill. The family and his many friends will miss him.
Anytime I met Gary he would say with a big smile, " well Kathy how are you these days"?
James and Kathy
