She accepted Christ at an early age later moving to Oakland, California where she united with the Allen Temple Baptist Church in 1955. Sister Spence served in various capacities at Allen Temple. She served as WMS President for five years, was chair of the WMS, a Circle Leader, Love Gift Chair, General Superintendent of Church School for five years, Asst. Superintendent of Sunday School to Bro. Bennie Brown, a Sunday School teacher, Leadership chair of the Board of Christian Education and a member of the Senior Choir. She also served on the Board for American Baptist Churches of the west for fifteen years, and was active throughout the church serving on various committees. She also introduced Pastor J. Alfred Smith, Senior to the Allen Temple Baptist Church.
Other accomplishments and accolades includes; completed a workshop on Community Care Facilities at Merritt College, was a special honoree of the California Legislature, a certificate of congratulations from Allen Temple in recognition of her commendable contribution, certificate of appreciation by the Business and Professional Women's Retreat and special Senior Honoree of Allen Temple Baptist Church.
Remembering her are here sister, Virginia Rogers, Vera C. Suber (Henry) and Diane Rogers and brothers, Erskine Rogers and Robert S. Rogers. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Eleizer and Cornelius Rogers. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
