Elizabeth Louise Pflieger Pirtle, age 82, of Monticello passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at her home. She was born August 27, 1931 in Washington D.C. to the late Christian Pflieger and Margaret McCain Pflieger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter James Pirtle whom she married July 18, 1953 and one sister, Diane Brown.

She was the salutatorian of her high school graduating class of 1950 at Mt. Vernon High School in Alexandria, VA. She worked in the Department of the Navy's Intelligence Security Branch in Washington D.C. and was a very active member of Ladelle Baptist Church having taught Sunday School and served as church treasurer for many years. Mrs. Pirtle was also involved with the Drew Central Schools reading program where she would volunteer to read to the students. She also participated in the Foster Grandparent program but her greatest love was being a wife, mother, grandmother.

Survivors include one son, Donald "Donnie" Pirtle of Richmond, TX; two daughters, Karen Moellenberndt and husband David of Warren and Laurie Sivils of Monticello; one brother, James Christian Pflieger and wife Marina of Alexandria, VA; seven grandchildren, Michelle Hoover, Amanda Cowan, Jessica Vesecky, B.J. Sivils, Rebecca Pirtle, Christina Pirtle and Alexandra Pirtle; and eleven great-grandchildren.
