She graduated from Drew Central High School and spent the majority of her life in the Monticello area where she was a former business administrator for Leisure Lodge and owner of the Mud Hut. In 2008, after the death of her husband, Joe Phillips, she relocated to be near family. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Phillips; parents, Elmer and Ola Smith; sister, Louise Lay; twin sister, Robbye Bland; sister Ethel Dees; brother, Edwin Smith; and sister, Shirley Lee.
Bobbye is survived by her sister, Sue Rice; her nieces and nephew, Nancy Grainger, Beverly House, Jeanie McCarley, Renae Hightower, Randy Lee, Tammy Rice, Sha Carter, Suzanne Temple; and multiple great and great-great nieces and nephews. She also dearly loved her Phillips nieces and nephews.
Bobbye pursued excellence in all things. Her hands were consistently busty either sewing, painting, crocheting, gardening, or quilting. She kept numerous pantries stocked with canned pickles, green beans, pepper jellies, and tomatoes. With unparalleled generosity, most of her creations were made to be given away. Bobbye's home was beautifully decorated, both inside and out, particularly around the holidays. She had a huge heart for dogs and was affectionally referred to as the "dog whisperer." Although Bobbye never had biological children, she was a second mother and grandmother to her extended family. She loved those around her with all her heart. Her Christian faith played an important role in her life, giving her grace to face her diagnosis with upmost courage. "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who loved him." James 1:12.
Graveside services will be held at Rash Cemetery in Cominto on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
