He was a retired truck driver, a United States Army Veteran of Vietnam and was a Christian.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Smith Fowler of Monticello; two sons, Patrick Fowler and wife Kristy and Jeff Fowler and wife Leah, both of Monticello; two stepsons, Wade Free and wife Cindy of Monticello and Jody Free and wife April of Arkansas City; one sister, Charlotte Rasbury of Texas; one brother, Orville Fowler of Booneville; one sister-in-law, Linda Fowler of Monroe, LA; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends.
