He was a welder, U. S. Army Veteran of Vietnam and a Baptist. He was the son of the late Jasper R. Burns, Sr. and Maybell McCurdy Burns and was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Burns; one sister, Doris Bourne and one brother, Jasper R. Burns, Jr.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Bussell and husband, Johnny of Middleton, TN; four sisters, Hattie Bright of Dibble, OK, Jo Ann Forrest and Sussie Klins, both of Monticello and Linda Harris of Springfield, MO; five grandchildren, Tonia, Tabitha, Felicia, Stephanie and Johnny D.; eleven great-grandchildren.

Nashville, TN Sunday, November 27, 2011 Sharon & family we're so sorry for the lost of Tommy. There were no better neighbor than Lois & Tommy when we lived in Warren. Lois was such a big help with my kids( Corey & Josh_. But now Lois & Tommy are back together in heaven. Your in our thoughts & prayers. May God bless & help you through this hard & painful time in your life. I hate it we can't come to the funeral. But I'm on a Lung Transplant List in Nashville, TN and we have to be here all the time.
