Yvonne Pennington May passed away December 21, 2011, in Monticello, Arkansas, after a long battle with cancer. She was 82. Born in New Hope, Arkansas, to Susie and Charlie Pennington and a former resident of Greenville, Mississippi, Mrs. May graduated from Drew Central High School and later received her degree in nursing from the program at Kings Daughters Hospital in Greenville in 1950. She worked briefly as an RN. She was the wife of the late Robert Hunter 'Bob' May, a Monticello native, also a former businessman and City Councilman in Greenville. Returning to Monticello in 1987, Mrs. May was an active member of Monticello's First Presbyterian Church and an avid gardener.

She leaves two daughters, Charlotte Suzanne May of Monticello, Arkansas, and Sarah Hunter May of Pensacola, Florida. She also leaves a brother and sister, Hugh Pennington and Betty Wallis, both of Monticello, Arkansas, a brother, Harry Pennington of Olive Branch, Mississippi, a sister-in-law, Marilyn May Shields Wiltsie of Nashville, Tennessee, and thirteen nieces and nephews.
