Shirley Mae Tilman Sheets, was born May 14, 1949 to the parentage of the late Olive B. Avery and Willie Tilman in Drew County, Arkansas. She was reared by her grandparents Albert and Beatrice Simmons.

Shirley professed a hope and faith in Jesus Christ at an early age with the Mount Tabor Baptist Church. Shirley Mae was united in Holy Matrimony to Cal Lawrence Sheets on December 23, 1967 and to the union three children were born.
